Wards Medical Practice in Kilmarnock will close its doors for three hours on Friday, July 17, following the death of nurse Vicky Havers, who worked at the surgery for more than two decades before retiring recently.
Practice Closure to Honour Colleague
The surgery, located on Dundonald Road, will be shut between 10.30am and 1.30pm to allow staff to pay their respects at Havers' funeral. In a tribute, practice bosses described her as the heart and soul of the team, bringing "hilarity, laughter and never ending energy wherever she was and her resonating laugh throughout our corridors is one that will not be matched nor forgotten."
Patients requiring urgent medical attention during the closure have been advised to contact Ayrshire Urgent Care Service on 01563 826930.
Tribute to a Dedicated Healthcare Assistant
The practice's online tribute highlighted Havers' career as a healthcare assistant, calling it "truly a vocation." It added: "The care and compassion she gave wholeheartedly to her patients was matched only by her skill with her nickname 'the vampire' being highly accurate owed to her renowned venepuncture!"
The practice expressed gratitude to NHS Ayrshire and Arran Primary Care management for facilitating the closure, and thanked patients for their messages of condolences and understanding.
