An easyJet flight from London Gatwick to Glasgow declared a mid-air emergency after a passenger required urgent medical assistance. Flight EZY861 issued a squawk 7700 code and requested priority landing as it approached Glasgow, just five minutes before touchdown.

Emergency protocol activated

The squawk 7700 code is reserved for emergencies and alerts Air Traffic Control that the aircraft is in distress. The alert was sent by the airline as the Airbus A319 prepared to land at the Scottish airport.

Paramedics on arrival

Upon arrival, the aircraft was met by paramedics. An easyJet spokesperson told The Herald: “Flight EZY861 from London Gatwick to Glasgow requested priority landing into Glasgow due to a customer requiring urgent medical assistance onboard. The flight was met by paramedics upon arrival.”
