Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Matvey Safonov was knocked out in a collision during the team's warm-up ahead of Friday's Ligue 1 fixture against Lille, with medics rushing onto the pitch to treat him.
The 27-year-old was lunging to punch a ball away during drills before kick-off when his head collided with a member of the PSG first-team coaching staff. He lay on his back on the pitch as medical staff provided treatment, with players and staff surrounding him anxiously.
Safonov cleared to start
While Lucas Chevalier began preparing for a last-minute change in goal, the PSG No. 2 was ultimately told to stand down, and Safonov was allowed to start after brief treatment.
Safonov managed the full 90 minutes as PSG were held to a 2-2 draw at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy in a dramatic encounter. Hakon Haraldsson opened the scoring for the hosts after 21 minutes, with Lille holding their lead for the majority of the match.
Late comeback not enough
Dilane Bakwa doubled Lille's advantage with less than 10 minutes remaining, leaving PSG 2-0 down. Luis Enrique's side responded in stoppage time, with Vitinha pulling a goal back before Marquinhos levelled at the death.
The result leaves the defending Ligue 1 champions with just two points from their first two matches of the season. They were also held to a 2-2 draw by Rennes last weekend in their opening match of 2026/27, and sit sixth in the league standings.
Monaco up next
PSG's next fixture is against AS Monaco at the Parc des Princes on Friday, September 4. The club also learned their league phase fate for the Champions League, where they will face Barcelona, Roma, Galatasaray and SK Slovan Bratislava at home, with away trips against Manchester City, Aston Villa, Villarreal and Como.
