The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has officially announced a significant financial boost for millions of individuals across the UK receiving disability benefits. A crucial £560 cost of living payment is set to land in bank accounts automatically, offering vital support amidst ongoing economic pressures.
Who is eligible for the £560 payment?
This non-taxable and non-repayable payment is designed for those who receive any of the following qualifying disability benefits:
- Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
- Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
- Attendance Allowance
- Scottish Adult Disability Payment
- Armed Forces Independence Payment
- Constant Attendance Allowance
- War Pension Mobility Supplement
To qualify, you must have received a payment (or later be found eligible for a payment) of one of these benefits for April 1, 2024. This key date determines eligibility for the vast majority of claimants.
When will the payments be made?
Mark your calendars. The DWP has confirmed that the £560 disability cost of living payment will be made between June 4, 2024, and June 10, 2024. The payment should appear in accounts automatically, requiring no application from recipients.
For those on qualifying benefits from the Ministry of Defence, the payment will be issued slightly later, between June 5 and June 11, 2024.
Why is this payment being issued?
This payment is part of a broader government support package totalling over £9 billion to help vulnerable households manage the increased cost of living. It acknowledges the additional financial challenges faced by individuals with disabilities, who often incur higher energy and care costs.
This £560 sum is separate from other means-tested cost of living payments, meaning eligible individuals can receive this on top of any other support they qualify for.
What to do if you don't receive your payment
The DWP urges claimants to be patient, as millions of payments will be processed across the payment window. However, if you believe you are eligible but have not received your £560 by June 11, 2024 (or June 12 for MoD beneficiaries), you can report the missing payment via a dedicated portal on the GOV.UK website after this date.
