Lynsey Crombie, known as the Queen of Clean, has shared four freezer hacks to help Brits stay cool during the ongoing heatwave. The UK is experiencing sweltering conditions, and these simple tricks use common household items to lower body temperature and make daily tasks more comfortable.
Hot Water Bottle as a Cooling Pad
Crombie recommends filling a hot water bottle with cold water, not overfilling it, and freezing it. Once frozen, wrap it in a pillowcase or towel to use in bed or on the sofa. She warns against using the same bottle for hot water later, as freezing can weaken the rubber, increasing the risk of splitting when filled with boiling water. It is best to keep one specifically for cooling.
Damp Tea Towel for Instant Relief
Wet a clean tea towel, wring it out, and freeze it for a short time. Drape it around the back of your neck to cool down quickly after cleaning, gardening, or just escaping the heat. This is one of the fastest ways to lower body temperature without turning up the fan. The trick also works for cooling dogs.
Microfibre Cloth for Comfortable Cleaning
Dampen a microfibre cloth slightly and freeze it for 20 to 30 minutes. Use it to wipe down sticky fridge shelves, kitchen worktops, or other surfaces. The chilled cloth stays cooler for longer, making cleaning feel more comfortable on a hot day, according to Crombie.
Beauty Tools for Puffiness Reduction
Store gua sha tools, reusable eye masks, or facial rollers in the fridge or freezer. They are cooling first thing in the morning, especially after a warm night. Chilled tools help reduce puffiness and give skin a refreshing boost. Crombie also suggests using a bag of frozen peas wrapped in a tea towel on hot feet to cool down.
Crombie, the UK's No.1 home expert and TV presenter, emphasizes that the freezer is not just for food. These hacks help stay cooler, make cleaning more comfortable, and boost skincare routines. Her book 'The 15 Minute Clean' is available on Amazon.
