Stop Wasps Invading Your Home With One Kitchen Item in July

According to gardening expert Ish, known as Gardening with Ish on Instagram, placing citrus peels in your garden is a simple and effective way to deter wasps this July. The strong acidic smell of lemons, oranges, and limes contains natural oils that interfere with wasps' scent receptors, making it harder for them to locate food or navigate.

How to Use Citrus Peels

Ish recommends scattering fresh or dried citrus peels on windowsills, beside doorways, or around outdoor dining areas. For a spray, boil peels in water for 15-20 minutes, let the mixture cool, strain it, and transfer to a spray bottle. Apply to table legs, garden furniture, or near entry points.

Other scents that repel wasps include vinegar, used coffee grounds, and peppermint. Ish suggests positioning these around the garden as alternatives.

Effectiveness and Limitations

While this method is widely recommended, specialists note that its impact is limited to specific areas. Peels and sprays must be reapplied regularly to remain effective. However, when done correctly, it produces excellent results.
