A loyal dog who bravely stopped traffic to save her injured best friend after the pair were abandoned in Greece is now searching for a new home, as her companion has already been adopted.
Heroic Act of Loyalty
The young dog, estimated to be around 18 months old, was found abandoned alongside another pup in Markopoulo, Greece, with no food, water or shelter. When her companion became trapped inside a fenced-off plot and could not escape, the loyal dog refused to leave. Instead, rescuers say she stood in the middle of the road until a passing driver stopped. She then led the motorist directly to her injured pal, allowing help to arrive just in time.
Sharing her story on social media, the rescue organization Greek Stray ResQ said: "This beautiful young girl has already shown the kind of loyalty most of us only read about in stories. Found abandoned in Markopoulo, Greece, with her best dog friend, she became a true little hero when her companion was trapped inside a fenced plot and couldn't get out. Instead of running away, she bravely stood in the road to stop a passing car, then led the driver straight to her friend. Because of her courage and determination, help arrived just in time."
Left Behind After Saving Her Friend
Despite her heroic efforts, the dog has been left behind. Her companion has since found a forever home, while she continues to wait for someone to give her the same chance. The dog does not yet have a name, but she is healthy, spayed, and ready to travel to the UK to find an owner who can show her the love and loyalty she showed her best friend.
Describing her personality, the rescue added: "She is wonderfully social, affectionate and clearly thrives on companionship. There is such intelligence, devotion and gentleness in her nature - the kind of dog who doesn't just share your home, but truly shares your heart."
Appeal for a Forever Home
Rescuers are now hoping somebody will finally give her the happy ending she deserves. They added: "She has already proven how deeply she can love. All she needs now is someone to love her back with the safety, comfort and belonging she has always deserved. If you're looking for a loyal best friend and a very special dog to welcome into your family, this brave girl is ready to travel to the UK and start her new life."
Commenting on her rehoming post, one user said: "Oh no a bonded pair. How sad they weren’t adopted together. Good luck little angel." Another user added: "Poor girl, how could anyone adopt one and not the other given this incredible story. I can’t help as I have four young (ish) males but I hope this lovely lady finds a home soon." A third user said: "Oh poor girl. I pray this beautiful girl is adopted soon."
