Dog Overlooked by 13,000 Adopters Because He's 'Nothing Special'
Dog Overlooked by 13,000 Adopters as 'Nothing Special'

An eight-year-old rescue dog named Kito has been overlooked by more than 13,000 potential adopters in the UK, with rescuers saying there is “nothing special” about him in the eyes of people searching for a pet. Kito has spent months watching other dogs leave for their forever homes while he remains behind in his kennel in Greece.

Shelter Life Breaking His Spirit

Those caring for Kito say shelter life is slowly breaking his spirit, as he rarely even wants to leave his kennel anymore. Sharing an emotional appeal on social media, the rescue centre said: “Kito is losing hope. Please don’t let him grow old in a kennel. Kito is eight years old, and every day that passes, shelter life steals a little more of his spirit.”

“He rarely comes out of his kennel anymore. The boy who once looked forward to getting outside now spends most of his days lying quietly behind the bars. With very little exercise and so little to stimulate him, he’s slowly giving up hope.”

Why Kito Is Overlooked

The centre believes Kito continues to be overlooked simply because he is no longer a puppy. They added: “This isn’t because Kito has done anything wrong. It’s because people keep scrolling past him. Maybe it’s because he’s no longer a puppy. Maybe it’s because there are so many dogs waiting. Whatever the reason, Kito continues to watch other dogs leave while he stays behind.”

Kito also has a scar on his head, which rescuers believe may have been caused before he was rescued. They said: “We don’t know exactly what happened to him before he was rescued, but we believe he may have been struck with an object. Despite whatever he endured, he has never stopped being gentle or trusting.”

Personality and Needs

Describing his personality, the rescue says Kito is gentle, loyal and affectionate, with a calm temperament that makes him well past the demanding puppy stage. They say he is happy with life’s simple pleasures, whether that’s going for a walk, curling up for a cuddle, or having a soft bed to sleep in.

Kito is currently in Greece and weighs around 25kg. He is neutered, healthy, and fully vaccinated. He is ready to travel to the UK if the right family comes forward.

Appeal for a Forever Home

Ending their appeal, rescuers urged anyone looking for a loyal companion to consider giving the overlooked dog a second chance. They said: “If you’re looking for a loyal companion who will love you with all his heart, please give Kito the chance he’s been waiting for.” To adopt Kito, or any other dogs in Greek Stray ResQ's care, visit their website via greekstrayrescue.com.
