The entire Fast & Furious franchise, comprising 11 films, became available for streaming on Netflix on Friday, July 3, 2026. The series, which began in 2001, is set to conclude with its final installment, Fast Forever, scheduled for release in 2028.
A Franchise Born from Humble Beginnings
The first film, The Fast and the Furious, premiered in the summer of 2001 and followed Paul Walker's character, Brian O'Conner, an undercover cop tasked with bringing down Vin Diesel's Dominic 'Dom' Toretto, a notorious street racer. Described as "Point Break with cars," the film's central conflict involved Dom and his crew stealing DVD players. Despite its modest premise, the movie grossed over $200 million at the global box office.
The sequel, 2 Fast 2 Furious, featured Walker in a Miami Vice-inspired adventure, while 2006's Tokyo Drift introduced an entirely new cast. The franchise gained momentum with Vin Diesel's return in the fourth film, Fast & Furious, in 2009, setting the stage for increasingly audacious stunts.
Escalating Action and Box Office Dominance
Each subsequent film pushed the boundaries of physical plausibility. In Fast & Furious 6, Dom kept pace with an airplane; in F9, he used a grapple gun to launch his car over a cliff. The series reached new heights—literally—when Ludacris and Tyrese Gibson's characters traveled to space in F9, and Idris Elba's villain possessed superhuman abilities in Hobbs & Shaw. According to Universal Pictures, the franchise has generated over $7 billion globally, demonstrating sustained audience appetite for its over-the-top action.
Notable actors who have joined the series include Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Helen Mirren, John Cena, Brie Larson, Rita Moreno, Jason Momoa, and Charlize Theron.
The Final Chapter: Fast Forever
The eleventh film, Fast X, released in 2023, is the sixth most expensive film ever produced. Universal Pictures delayed confirmation of a sequel until gauging demand. In 2026, Vin Diesel announced the franchise's conclusion with Fast Forever, set for release on March 17, 2028. Sharing a photo of himself with Paul Walker, Diesel stated: "No one said the road would be easy… but it’s ours. One that has defined us and become our legacy… And a legacy… lasts Forever. March 17th 2028! FAST FOREVER."
All 11 Fast & Furious films are now available for streaming on Netflix.
