Jack P Shepherd, best known for playing David Platt on Coronation Street, has landed a new role away from the ITV soap after 26 years. The actor will make his pantomime debut this Christmas in Wales, starring in Sleeping Beauty at Venue Cymru in Llandudno.
Pantomime Debut Details
The production, which begins on December 12 and runs until January 2, 2027, will also feature John Evans and Simon Neehan. Shepherd said in a statement: "I'm delighted to be joining the cast in Llandudno this festive season and can't wait to entertain audiences in this year's pantomime."
Amanda Guy, Section Head at Venue Cymru, added: "We are thrilled to welcome Jack P Shepherd to Venue Cymru for Sleeping Beauty. Jack is one of the country's most recognisable and popular television stars, and we're delighted that he will be making his pantomime debut with us in Llandudno. Our audiences can look forward to another magical festive production packed with laughter, music and family fun."
Career Journey on Coronation Street
Shepherd joined the ITV soap as a youngster in the role of David Platt in 2000, after the character was originally played by Thomas Ormson. He was recast at age 12 and has since been part of many of the soap's biggest storylines. Shepherd previously revealed that he originally signed up for only three months, but his tenure extended to over two decades. Last year, he won ITV's Celebrity Big Brother, his first reality show appearance.
ITV Rule Change
This pantomime role comes after a reported major rule change at ITV, which no longer requires actors to quit their jobs to take on theatre roles. This means actors from Coronation Street and Emmerdale can take breaks from their soap roles to appear in pantos and other theatre productions.
Personal News
Shepherd's career news coincides with becoming a father for the fourth time. He and his wife, Hanni Treweek, welcomed their first child together, a daughter named Constance Ita Shepherd, born at home on June 26, 2026. The couple shared the news on Instagram on June 28, posting a photo of their baby girl's tiny hand.
