Lee Cronin's horror film The Mummy, which caused cinema-goers to gag in their seats, has arrived on HBO Max for streaming. The movie, which follows a family whose missing daughter is found mummified yet alive, has been described by some viewers as 'disgusting' but superior to Smile 2.
Plot and Cast
The film stars Jack Reynor as TV journalist Charlie Cannon, Laia Costa as his wife Larissa, and their children. The family moves to Egypt, where their daughter Katie vanishes from their home. Eight years later, they receive a shocking call: Katie has been discovered mummified inside an ancient sarcophagus—but she is still alive. When they bring her home, they realize something is deeply wrong.
Director and Reception
Irish filmmaker Lee Cronin, known for Evil Dead Rise and the upcoming Evil Dead Burn, directed the picture. He described it as 'one part Poltergeist and one part Se7en'. Critics gave it a 46% Rotten Tomatoes score, but audiences rated it 72%.
Audience Reactions
Fans have shared extreme reactions. One called it 'the best horror movie since The Exorcist', while another said it was 'the most scariest movie I've have ever seen'. A third viewer warned: 'This movie was so freaking DISGUSTING and nasty ... from skin peeling, nasty toes, and bodily fluid it had me literally gagging.' Another declared: 'Way better than some that were rated better like Smile 2! That one was bad!'
Streaming Availability
The Mummy is now available to stream on HBO Max as of July 3.
