BBC Morning Live presenter Gethin Jones has given fans a personal update, confessing that 'everything hurts' after a weekend of sporting challenges. The Cardiff-born broadcaster, who celebrates his 48th birthday in February, took part in a Doddie Aid event and an hour-long cycling challenge hosted by OJ Borg.
In an Instagram Stories clip, Jones said: 'Happy Sunday to you. First game of padel yesterday for about, I dunno, three months, after a very bad back, slowly getting back into it on the mat this morning. About to do the Doddie Ride, that should help. But my God I feel like everything hurts.' He admitted he was 'terrible' during the padel match but remained optimistic about the bike ride.
After the challenge, Jones shared another update looking noticeably shattered, saying: 'Did it with over 450 people this morning, the Doddie ride, I'm going to put a link in here - let's find a cure together.' He returned to Morning Live last week following a festive absence during which he performed in pantomime at Cardiff's New Theatre.
During a recent broadcast, Jones expressed outrage over a news report about schoolboys attacking birds with slingshots in a Welsh town. Discussing the story with co-presenter Helen Skelton and Crimewatch's Rav Wilding, Jones said: 'This just sounds awful, Rav.' Wilding detailed how officers confiscated slingshots and catapults from youngsters targeting wild birds, noting that someone had been hurt and vehicles damaged.
Wilding warned: 'Strictly speaking, owning one on its own is not illegal, but going out to injure a person, injure wildlife, causing criminal damage, but all of that is highly illegal.' Jones responded: 'Firing at birds, really? What's that about? It's ridiculous.' Morning Live airs on BBC One weekdays at 9.30am and on BBC iPlayer.
