Tom Hiddleston, known for his role in BBC's The Night Manager, is set to star in a captivating new historical series heading to National Geographic and Disney+ later this year. The first-look trailer for Pompeii: Out of Time has been released, generating significant excitement among fans.
New Docudrama Explores Pompeii's Untold Stories
The three-part series sees Hiddleston reunite with Loki executive producer Kevin R Wright. It promises to shed new light on the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, arguing that the event was far more than a catastrophic day of death and devastation. The series features a fascinating investigation into those who may have survived the blast, brought vividly to life through immersive dramatisations.
Joining Hiddleston is a team of ancient Rome specialists, including archaeologists, historians, geologists, and disaster experts. They unearth remarkable real-life accounts that challenge long-held assumptions. A teenage apprentice, a powerful businesswoman, and a mysterious Praetorian Guard serve as crucial elements of the mystery as Hiddleston travels back in time to examine the hours leading up to and during the eruption.
Official Synopsis and Hiddleston's Comments
A synopsis from Disney+ teases: 'As the volcano awakens and the countdown to catastrophe begins, the evidence converges in a gripping race against time to uncover who survived, who perished, and what determined their fate.'
Hiddleston said in a statement: 'The ancient world has compelled my imagination and curiosity for as long as I can remember. Classical Antiquity is the foundation of Western and European culture. To visit Pompeii is to feel the distance of 2,000 years compress. The past becomes the present.'
He added: 'Pompeii is often remembered for how its story ended. But by looking closer, we can uncover the details of people's lives, the choices they made, and the moments that came before the city was buried. To revisit the final hours of those ordinary people is a genuine honour.'
