Netflix has sparked outrage among subscribers after cancelling two series: The Abandons and The Vince Staples Show. The streaming giant confirmed the decisions this week, according to Deadline.
The Abandons, a Western drama starring Gillian Anderson and Lena Headey, was axed after just one season. Despite spending a fortnight in Netflix's top 10 for English-language series and garnering 19.8 million views in its first 28 days, the show's viewership dropped sharply to 4.8 million in the subsequent 17 days. The series holds a 30 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Fans have expressed disappointment, particularly as The Abandons drew comparisons to the popular Western Yellowstone. One IMDb reviewer praised it as a show that 'captured that rugged spirit perfectly,' while Screen Rant called it a 'grittier Yellowstone replacement.' However, the parallels did not translate into sustained success.
On social media, viewers vented their frustration. One X user lamented, 'The cancellation still makes me very sad. I had hoped for another season.' Another criticised Netflix's promotion, saying, 'They didn't even promote it properly smh.' A third fan wrote, 'The Abandons was excellent and we need to have a proper ending. Shame on you Netflix.'
The Vince Staples Show, which aired two seasons in 2024 and 2025, has also been cancelled. One fan expressed hope that 'another network picks up Vince Staples show, it was really good.'
Both series remain available to stream on Netflix.
