Monty Don's Quiet Life in Leominster Near Longmeadow

Monty Don's garden, Longmeadow, is the iconic setting for BBC Gardeners' World, located near the quaint market town of Leominster in Herefordshire. The horticultural authority acquired the two-acre site in 1991, when it was nothing more than an empty field. With limited funds but plenty of time, he devoted the following spring and summer to mowing the grass and removing debris. He revealed he was planning, dreaming and sketching throughout this period. Today, it exists as a stunningly crafted, wildlife-friendly sanctuary brimming with seasonal displays, lush borders, and carefully considered areas. While images of his property remain relatively private, the garden has been showcased for numerous years.

Where Does Monty Don Live?

The presenter previously discussed with English Home where he resides and the reasoning behind his choice of that particular spot. He said: "I live near a little town called Leominster in Herefordshire near the Welsh border." Regarding his choice of location, he explained it was "sufficiently far" from any London commuter belt, making it more financially accessible. He characterised his property as a Tudor oak-beamed hall house featuring 10 workrooms and studios.

The Garden's Evolution

The garden is divided into four distinct areas: the Cottage Garden, Jewel Garden, Paradise Garden, and Vegetable Garden. Documenting the garden's evolution on his blog, Monty noted: "The planting began in earnest in spring '93 and has never really ceased since. The changes have been dramatic and may seem astonishing to some. But in my mind that early field with its pattern of woven fences protecting the little plants, so small yet filled with dreams, still remains beneath the skin, is still there beneath all the years." Fans regularly catch glimpses of the various sections of his garden on Gardeners' World, including the plants and vegetables Monty cultivates.
