Garter Day took place in Windsor today, with multiple senior royals attending. The event, which takes place at Windsor Castle, saw King Charles lead the annual procession honouring the UK’s oldest and most senior order of chivalry.
Royals in Attendance
The monarch was joined by a number of fellow senior royals at the event, including Queen Camilla, the Prince and Princess of Wales, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, Princess Royal, and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester. Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was not present, marking the first time he has been snubbed completely from the day, with the former prince having been present behind-the-scenes at the event over the last four years.
Princess Catherine and Duchess Sophie Stun
Just like at every Garter Day, Princess Catherine and Duchess Sophie kept each other company as they watched the procession. The royals looked a vision as they stood and watched the proceedings in the sunshine, smiling and laughing together. It showed just how close their bond is, with many over the years having spoken about how friendly the two women are and have become.
King Charles and Queen Camilla Lead Procession
King Charles, like every year, led the procession today. He looked very regal as he walked around the grounds of Windsor Castle with Queen Camilla by his side. They were wearing the traditional Garter Day wardrobe, which included the elaborate blue velvet robes and plumed hats of the Order.
Princess Catherine and Prince William Share Carriage
Princess Catherine and Prince William shared a carriage to Windsor Castle after the service today. The couple were all smiles as they waved to the crowds sat side-by-side. Catherine wore a pale yellow coat dress by Patrick McDowell, whom she presented with the Queen Elizabeth II Prize for Design last year. The fabric was woven for her by Stephen Walters & Sons, in Suffolk and she finished her outfit with a wide-brimmed hat by Jane Taylor, trimmed with the same fabric, and earrings by Robinson & Pelham.
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor Notably Absent
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was notably absent from Garter Day today. While Andrew hasn’t been seen in the public aspects of Garter Day over the last few years, it is believed he normally has a role behind the scenes. This year marks the first time this has not happened, with Andrew not even attending the private lunch. A source told the Daily Express: “It’s one of those days that reminds him of all that he’s lost. He’s feeling more isolated than ever; he’s completely alone.”
