Two sisters who found each other through ITV's Long Lost Family were told during Monday's episode that their biological father had died and that their birth mother wants to meet them.
Natasha Carr, abandoned as a baby in a toilet at St Thomas's Hospital, Lambeth, in 1989, first appeared on the show in 2018 seeking her biological family. The programme could not locate her parents but, after three years of searching, discovered she had a full sister, Lee-Ann, who is 18 months older.
Lee-Ann, who shares 51 percent of Natasha's DNA, was also a foundling, left in the staff toilets at St James's Hospital in Balham days after her birth.
Heartbreaking News Away From Cameras
In the update, broadcast on August 24, host Davina McCall revealed the sisters' father had died a few years earlier following a battle with cancer. The news was delivered away from the cameras.
"I'm on my way to give Natasha and Lee-Ann major information; sadly, their birth father has died, which we've told them away from the cameras," Davina said.
Davina also confirmed their birth mother had been traced. "She's still alive, and she would really like the chance to meet them and to start building a relationship," she added.
Learning Their Background
During the conversation, the sisters learned their father was born and brought up in Jamaica until the age of 14. "It's really interesting to know our background and where we come from and who we are," Lee-Ann shared. "That's what started my journey, I wanted to know what flag."
The siblings also discovered their biological mother had additional children. Lee-Ann became emotional and was comforted by Natasha as Davina confirmed their mother's wish to reconnect.
Later in the episode, Natasha revealed she had met her birth mother while Lee-Ann was still processing the news. Long Lost Family: What Happened Next is available to stream on ITVX.
