Lewis Burton Absent from Caroline Flack Documentary as Family Seeks Truth

The Disney+ documentary 'Caroline Flack: Search for the Truth' has raised vital questions about the treatment of the late TV presenter, with her mother Christine Flack leading the investigation into the final months of her daughter's life. The film, which premiered this week, examines the press vilification and institutional failures that Christine believes contributed to Caroline's suicide in 2020.

A key issue highlighted is the decision to prosecute Caroline for assaulting her boyfriend Lewis Burton in December 2019. The Crown Prosecution Service initially recommended a caution, noting that Burton did not support the prosecution and that there was no history of domestic violence. However, a detective challenged this, arguing the offence was not minor, despite Burton not requiring medical treatment.

Caroline's agent, Louisa Booth, revealed that a psychiatric report warning of Caroline's poor mental health was sent to the CPS but allegedly ignored. The documentary shows that Caroline was treated in hospital for self-harm on the night of the incident, yet the prosecution proceeded. A CPS spokesperson defended the decision, stating it was based on medical opinion at the time and that celebrity status did not influence the case.

Lewis Burton, the alleged victim, did not participate in the documentary. He had previously stated he did not support the prosecution and has largely remained out of the public eye since Caroline's death. The documentary notes inconsistencies in police reports, including claims that Caroline hit Burton with a lamp, which were later disputed.

Christine Flack told Radio Times she wants 'the real Caroline to be remembered' and not the press portrayal. The documentary follows her pursuit of answers, highlighting failures in the justice system and media treatment that she believes led to her daughter's tragic death.
