Emmerdale fans believe they have worked out why Jimmy King crashed his car into the wedding marquee of Joe Tate and Dawn Taylor, with many fearing a tragic twist. The character was seen ploughing his vehicle into the tent during Wednesday's episode, moments after a pregnant Dawn begged Joe to forgive her for planning to run away with her ex Billy Fletcher.
Dawn asked Joe to marry her while the pair were alone in the marquee. Suddenly, they were forced to dive out of the way as a car sped towards them. The marquee was destroyed, and the episode ended with an unconscious Jimmy lifeless at the wheel. Joe lay injured on the ground, while Dawn was also badly hurt.
Fans suspect medical emergency behind the wheel
With Jimmy confirmed as the driver, viewers began speculating about what caused him to lose control. Some think they have solved the mystery, suggesting he may have fallen ill behind the wheel, possibly suffering a heart attack. This theory has gained traction amid rumours that Jimmy is being written out of the soap, with actor Nick Miles reportedly set to leave.
One fan posted on social media: "Probably heart attack at the wheel," while another agreed: "Heart attack I hope Joe and dawn ok." A third added: "Jimmys definitely had medical episode at the wheel poor sod his exit." Another viewer wrote: "I'm thinking heart attack/stroke at the wheel," and a further post read: "Jimmy must have a heart attack at the wheel."
Joe's fate teased in cryptic spoiler
The crash comes as Joe's future may have been hinted at in a cryptic spoiler shared with the Mirror. Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw recently teased that a big 2027 plot had been planned, saying a current storyline was about to escalate and would continue into the next year. She was discussing the dangerous feud between Joe and his uncle Caleb Miligan in the lead-up to the wedding week.
Laura indicated that the wedding aftermath would see Caleb and Joe feuding once more, with tensions set to worsen into 2027, amid some "gothic" autumn content for the Tates. The question remains whether this confirms Joe survives the crash.
