Emmerdale producer Sophie Roper has addressed rumours of a potential reunion between Charity Dingle and her ex-fiancée Vanessa Woodfield, following a bombshell kiss between the pair last year.
Charity (Emma Atkins) is at the centre of dramatic scenes as she confesses to a murder she didn't commit. She witnessed her granddaughter, Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill), accidentally kill Dr. Todd (Caroline Harker). To protect Sarah, Charity tells the police she is the one who killed Dr. Todd.
Charity and Mack's turbulent marriage
The latest drama is another test for Charity and her husband, Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb). The pair are already in a relationship crisis after she cheated on him with Ross Barton (Mike Parr) and gave birth to his baby.
Producer Sophie Roper says: "They've obviously gone through turbulent times after him finding out about Ross and Leyla."
Mack and Charity tied the knot in 2023, and it's been far from plain sailing for the pair, who have been on-and-off multiple times through the years. Recently, Charity slept with Ross Barton and became pregnant with his baby. After giving birth to baby Leyla, Charity lied and said that Sarah and Jacob were her biological parents.
Secret babies and betrayal
This is not the first secret baby to rock the couple. Viewers will remember that Mack had a baby with Chloe Harris behind Charity's back. However, this time it's Mack who has to deal with the betrayal. Sophie says: "Mack is often the one that's having to respond to potentially bad decisions that his wife has made."
The producer is certain that the 'strong' pair will make it through: "They're an incredibly strong couple and we will fight for them to find a way through it because I think for everything Charity's been through, for everything that they've done to one another…"
"It's been a really dramatic marriage and a dramatic relationship and they've faced a lot but I think where they're at their best is when they unite to overcome things together."
Addressing 'Vanity' rumours
Not everyone will be happy about Charity and Mack staying strong. Many viewers are rooting for Charity to reunite with her ex-fiancée Vanessa (Michelle Hardwick). The pair shared a kiss last year, leaving fans hopeful that a reunion could be on the cards in the future.
Addressing 'Vanity', producer Sophie Roper says: "Obviously, years ago there was a romantic connection, but I think we've really earned the friendship that those two women have."
