Emmerdale actress went from £40k a day to benefits office

Laura Carter, a reality star who appeared in an episode of Emmerdale in 2010, has revealed she went from earning £40,000 per day to attending a benefits appointment. Speaking on the RESET the Pod podcast, Carter said she had spent all her money and had nothing after the birth of her son Jaxon.

From glamour modelling to financial struggle

Carter is best known for appearing on Big Brother in 2016, but has also had roles in Doctors, Casualty and The Syndicate. She became notorious for an on-screen romp with her Big Brother co-star Marco Pierre White Jr., who was engaged at the time. After her TV stint, she landed glamour modelling jobs and posed for the cover of Playboy, but fell pregnant with Jaxon and returned to the UK from Los Angeles.

Speaking about her circumstances, she said: “I’d gone from doing jobs where I could pretty much earn 40 grand in a day [to] when I had Jaxon, I had nothing, I had spent all my money. I was no longer with his dad. I remember sitting in my flat, which was a beautiful flat, and I remember thinking, ‘How the hell am I going to pay for this?’.”

Benefits appointment as a wake-up call

Carter said she was too proud to ask for help, but someone suggested she ask the government for benefits. She attended a benefits appointment, but described the meeting as a “wake-up call” to sort herself out. She explained: “I couldn't believe it had got to that point. I stood up, said 'Thank you,' and walked out. That was the reset.”

She later launched a subscription service on OnlyFans to supplement her income. Crediting OnlyFans for “saving her life”, Carter said: “I went from sitting in the benefits office to having so much money a month later.”

Regret over on-screen affair

Carter said sleeping with White on the show is a regret she “has to live with for the rest of her life” after splitting Marco from his fiancée Kim Melville-Smith.
