Gemma Winter-Brown will discover the reason for Celeste's arrival next week in Coronation Street, while tensions rise elsewhere in Weatherfield.
Celeste's health fails
Tensions boil over in the ITV soap, filmed in Salford, when Gemma confronts Todd Grimshaw about his treatment of George Shuttleworth, who retaliates by telling her to visit her dying aunt. Shocked by Todd's revelation, Gemma tracks down Celeste, but an awkward encounter turns to horror when her estranged family member's health suddenly fails. Todd arrives just as Gemma leaves, only to clash with Celeste and storm out.
Later, having seen paramedics rush to Celeste's room at the hotel, Gemma breaks the news to her mum, Bernie Winter-Alahan, that Celeste has died, leaving behind a devastating family secret.
Family secret revealed
George prepares to break the news of Celeste's death to Todd, who is late for work and stayed out all night. When Mary Taylor suggests they rally to support him over dinner and remind him he has good friends, everyone agrees. But when Todd calls at the hotel to visit Celeste, Ryan Connor reveals she died.
Gemma shares the awful news about Celeste with Kit Green and tells him about the family truth, while Dev Alahan finds Bernie crying in the Rovers' backyard and does his best to comfort her. As Celeste's death sends shockwaves through the Winter-Browns, Gemma fights her emotions, spelling out to Bernie that she intends to stand by her side no matter what. When Bethany Platt confides in Gemma that she's worried about Kit's mood swings, Gemma manages to tell her about their family discovery.
In Celeste's hotel room, a hungover Todd sadly tidies up her things, finding a letter addressed to him. Having read it, Todd explains to George that, according to Celeste's instructions, she no longer wants a funeral but wants them to throw a party in her memory instead. Todd, Bernie, Kit, Gemma, Dev, George, Chesney Winter-Brown, Joseph Brown, Christina Boyd and Asha Alahan gather in the hotel bar for Celeste's remembrance party, and later Todd reads out a message from Celeste.
Jodie's interference
With David Platt away, his wife Shona struggles to soothe daughter Harper and is short with Lily, while Jodie Ramsey, who discovers she's been given community service for the assault on Sarah Platt and is on litter picking duty, interferes. As Jodie litter picks, she overhears Bethany arranging a date. Jodie makes a scathing remark, but Bethany puts her in her place. Smarting, Jodie suggests to Kit that they should go on a date and promises him the time of his life.
A panicky Shona tells Jodie that Harper has a rash, but it turns out to be nothing more than teething. When Jodie reveals she's got a date with Kit, Shona's shocked and accuses her of stabbing Sarah in the back. Bethany meets up with Roman in the bistro and they raise a toast to a successful second date without drama. But when Jodie enters with Kit, Bethany's good mood evaporates as she explains that her mum is in prison and only broke up with Kit a few weeks ago.
As Jodie flirts with Kit, Bethany loses her temper and warns Kit that Jodie is toxic and he should steer clear. As Bethany goes, Jodie invites Kit back for a nightcap. At No.8, Jodie adds to Shona's stress by hiding her car keys, smiling to herself, and sends Kit a message suggesting a rematch. Shona calls David about her nightmare day, then suddenly realises she's left Harper in the car. In a blind panic, she dashes outside to find Daniel Osbourne cradling Harper.
In the aftermath, Jodie orders Shona to get some sleep and invites Kit round as she looks after Harper. Shona comes back downstairs to find Jodie and Kit enjoying a glass of wine. Parking herself on the sofa, she warns Kit that a relationship with her sister is possibly his worst idea ever.
Ronnie punched
Ronnie Bailey offers to handle their supplier meeting, but as Debbie Webster prepares to leave, he gently reminds her to put on shoes. At the hotel, Ronnie points out she's still wearing her slippers, and a confused Debbie stares at her feet and suggests it's time they went home. Later, Ronnie eyes up Idris Nazir's car and explains to Carl Webster that he's thinking of stealing it for Fiona, as he owes her for the missing gun. Soon, in the Rovers, Carl hands Ronnie the key to Idris's car, having stolen it from his jacket.
Idris reports his car stolen, admitting he can't remember where he left his key. But it's not long before Idris accuses Ronnie of stealing his car and punches him to the floor. Later, Carl implores Ronnie not to go looking for revenge as Debbie needs to be calm.
As Ryan gets a manicure from Bethany in the salon, Debbie breezes in, and it becomes clear she's reliving her hairdressing past. Maria Windass returns to the salon to find Debbie giving Bethany a full eighties makeover, and while Bethany plays along, when Debbie picks up the scissors, Maria comes to her rescue. As Debbie looks at the scissors in confusion, she rushes out. Finding Ronnie drinking in the hotel bar, Debbie gives him short shrift before suffering a meltdown.
Betsy's mortification
Lauren Bolton visits Betsy Swain, but, to her annoyance, Lauren spends the whole time texting Ollie Driscoll. Betsy later admits to her mum, Lisa Connor-Swain, that she feels lonely. With the help of her physiotherapist, Betsy stands up for the first time since her stroke. Lauren suggests to Ollie that they visit Betsy and bring her some of his cake. But when Lauren calls with Ollie, Betsy's reaction is uncertain.
Later, Lauren lays down the law to Betsy and tells her she's taking her out for lunch in the Bistro. Once out for their meal, Betsy knocks some cutlery off the table, and while Lauren quickly goes to her aid, when Debbie jokes that she's drunk, Betsy is mortified. Kevin and Abi Webster take Debbie for lunch so they can discuss her birthday. But having heard about her latest faux pas with Betsy, Ronnie suggests they dial down her party plans.
Nina invites Abi, Asha and Summer Spellman for farewell drinks in the Rovers. After an emotional moment with Abi in Seb Franklin's memorial garden, Nina says goodbye to her friends before heading to Whitby with Roy Cropper.
