Coronation Street fans have issued a call for changes to stop the long-running show from being moved out of its usual weekday slot on ITV.
The soap, which is filmed in Salford, and its Leeds-based counterpart Emmerdale were put into a new airing pattern back in January, which was marked by the programmes joining forces for a history-making crossover episode.
Soap power hour disrupted
It means that viewers have got used to their daily fix of drama from the cobbles and the Dales after the two programmes became part of a 'soap power hour', with Emmerdale airing at 8pm, followed by Corrie at 8.30pm from Monday to Friday.
The major schedule change meant that half-hour episodes have since been airing for each show every weeknight, which the network said at the time was because 'viewing habits continue to change'.
But there have been a number of changes to the scheduling pattern over the summer due to coverage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and the return of the football season looks set to cause more disruption in the coming weeks and months.
Football replaces soaps on Tuesday
On Tuesday (August 25) there will be no episode of either soap on ITV1 to make way for coverage of the EFL Carabao Cup game instead.
Nottingham Forest will take on Leeds United in the cup clash, with coverage starting at 7.30pm and kick-off at 8pm, therefore replacing the usual 'soap power hour' from 8pm to 9pm.
To make up for the change, a new episode of the ITV soaps will air this Sunday (August 30), with Emmerdale starting at its usual time of 8pm, followed by Corrie at 8.30pm.
Fans call for alternatives
As an update was issued on when Corrie and Emmerdale can be caught on-screen this week, fans were quick to share their annoyance at the changes, and shared a plea as to how the schedule could be saved in the future.
Drag star Baga Chipz commented: "Why can’t you put it on ITVX.. We also need half hour episodes like Eastenders and not 22 minute episodes.. I will take this to parliament if must. It worked for Deidre."
