Disney+ has released a first-look trailer for its new series The Real Rooneys, offering a glimpse into the chaotic lives of Wayne and Coleen Rooney and their four children. The 10-episode series follows the couple, both 40, over a pivotal year in their lives, with cameras invited into their home.
The year marked significant changes for the family, as Wayne stepped away from football management after being sacked by Plymouth in December 2024, swapping the touchline for school runs. Meanwhile, Coleen embraced the biggest opportunities of her career, including designing her own Primark range.
Trailer Highlights and Family Moments
In the trailer, Wayne tells the Disney+ cameras: “We spoke about her doing more work but not about me getting sacked!” Coleen jokes in response: “This is my series, are you glad that I let you on?” to which Wayne replies: “Oh here we go. Get over it.”
As the children jump around on the sofa, Coleen adds: “It’s hectic, it’s mad. Not much peace and quiet around here. No one knows the real Rooneys. This is a side we have never shown before.”
The Disney cameras follow the family through the highs and lows of married life, raising four lively boys, and supporting eldest son Kai as he pursues his own footballing dream. The series promises “surprising personal revelations, career-defining moments, lavish celebrations and unforgettable family holidays.”
Release Details and Behind-the-Scenes Footage
Viewers can stream Episodes 1-8 on Disney+ on September 24, with two special episodes available on October 1. Earlier today, media at the Edinburgh TV Festival were shown an additional two minutes of footage from the documentary, which summed up Coleen’s life juggling work and being a mum.
In one interview for the cameras, Coleen says: “It’s nice just having time for me…” before being interrupted by one of her kids asking ‘what’s for tea?’ After telling them it will be spaghetti bolognese, she adds: “Why didn’t he ask his dad first?”
Coleen also admits that she is now living in her dream mansion, explaining: “This house is everything I have dreamed of. As a little girl you draw a house with a door and the same [on] both sides.” Wayne is then shown singing the Blur song Country House, apparently mocking her, singing: “She lives in a house, a very big house in the country.”
Family Life and Future Ventures
Coleen, who shares sons Kai, 16, Klay, 13, Kit, 10, and Cass, eight, with her husband, quips: “The only problem is we have to share it with our four boys.” In further footage, Wayne is shown racing a kart around the grounds with the kids, acting like a child himself as he ripped up the grass, before giving an insight into the latter stages of his career, confessing that he hadn’t planned to be sacked.
The series will also focus on Coleen’s own fashion range and her ventures going from strength to strength. Sean Doyle, Vice President, Unscripted for Disney+, said: “Wayne lost his job and became a top pundit and we have documented that process. And we have documented Coleen’s career skyrocketing, all along with brilliant access to the family in their beautiful home with lovely kids.”
The Real Rooneys will premiere on Disney+ on September 24.
