Journey have postponed two dates of their “Final Frontier Tour”, citing “illness” within the band. The shows in Des Moines, Iowa, and Lincoln, Nebraska, were cancelled, with rescheduled dates yet to be announced.
A statement from the Des Moines venue said the postponement was due to “illness within the Journey band camp”. Fans are advised to keep their tickets, which will be honoured for the new date.
The announcement follows reports of tension within the group. Singer Arnel Pineda claimed in a Rolling Stone interview that he had been prevented from leaving the band before the tour. “I said to them I wanted to retire because of my personal problems,” he said. “No answer. Obviously, they don’t want to find another singer.”
Guitarist Neal Schon denied this, writing on Facebook: “For clarity, no one was ever prevented by me from making their own personal decisions. At the same time, we were all advised by our representatives that there are contractual obligations tied to touring that need to be honoured.”
Former frontman Steve Perry also quashed rumours of a reunion. In a statement, he said: “The rumours about me rejoining the band are simply not true.” Keyboardist Jonathan Cain had earlier suggested Perry was “thinking about” joining the tour.
The “Final Frontier Tour” is expected to resume on April 12 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
