Wizards of the Coast has unveiled Dungeons & Dragons: World of Warcraft, a 256-page book that brings the MMO's dungeons and villains to the tabletop. It arrives on November 17, 2026, and was developed with Blizzard Entertainment, whose WoW team reviewed the lore for accuracy.
The release is timed with Blizzard's WoW Forever, a reimagined version of classic WoW currently in beta ahead of its November 4 launch.
Seven dungeons reworked for tabletop
The book adapts seven of the game's best-known dungeons: Azjol-Nerub, Blackfathom Deeps, Deadmines, Dire Maul, Onyxia's Lair, Scarlet Monastery and Shadowfang Keep. These have been reworked rather than copied, adding secret passages and alternative routes to WoW's combat-heavy corridors.
The Deadmines now features tunnels filled with undead miners still working after death, while Dire Maul keeps its ogre tribute run where players trick their way to becoming king of the ogres. Bosses do not respawn, so leaving a dungeon halfway through means something new will have moved in by the time players return.
Streamlined mechanics
The adaptation removes spirit healers, corpse runs, mana bars and the need to farm bosses for rare drops. Raids have been scaled down for smaller groups, as getting five people around a table is challenging enough without needing 40. The designers even suggested Tuesday mornings as the ideal playtime, while WoW servers are down for maintenance.
During a playtest at Blizzard's California headquarters, a first-time player using an undead warlock decided he could not cast spells without a lower jaw to speak the words, and instead pulled off his own arm and threw it at the boss. That session helped shape the book's "mythic" bosses, which refill their health and change tactics when players think they have won.
Monsters, factions and pets
The monster roster spans from tiny Fel Imps to the Lich King, with Sylvanas, Illidan, Jaina Proudmoore and Arthas all featured. The Abomination, a stitched-together creature whose foul aura damages anyone nearby, also appears. The book includes crafting professions, more than 20 factions to earn reputation with, and dragons who can grant a wish to favoured players. And yes, there are pets.
