GTA 6 advertising banners appearing in major cities worldwide have had all gun references removed from the artwork. The censored posters have been spotted in Paris, New York's Times Square, on a bus in Chicago and at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
Launch campaign underway
Rockstar's advertising campaign is in full swing ahead of the game's November 19 launch, which is just over a month away. The developer recently released the game's launch trailer, which featured shower scenes with protagonists Jason and Lucia. Large advertisements have also appeared in Miami, Florida, the real-world inspiration for the game's setting, Leonidas.
The censored artwork was first noticed on one of the Les Mercuriales towers in Paris, France, where the banner was completed earlier this week. As highlighted on Reddit, two gun references from the original artwork have been removed from the Paris banner.
Global rollout of edited artwork
The same edited version has since appeared in New York's Times Square, on a bus in Chicago and at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. It remains unclear whether this is due to a blanket advertising regulation rule or if Rockstar is rolling out edited versions to avoid complications.
The game's marketing push has not yet landed in a significant way in London or the UK generally, but that is expected to change as the November 19 launch date approaches.
Release details
GTA 6 will launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, with a PC version expected to arrive early next year. Rockstar has also confirmed that its next game will not take another eight years to develop.
