A food reviewer from Huddersfield, known as Just Deano, has sparked a buzz after trying Iceland's own-brand chip shop curry fish fillet strips. He declared them a 'game changer for fish and chips lovers' and made a surprising comparison to a meal from Gordon Ramsay's restaurant.
Discovery in the 'New and Trending' Section
While browsing Iceland's website, Deano stumbled upon the product in the 'new and trending' section. Despite admitting the price was a bit high, he was impressed. The product, '100% Fish Fillet Strips Chip Shop Curry', features battered fish with a curry flavor. Deano, who has nearly 50,000 subscribers, had previously tried Iceland's chicken options but this was the first fish product that caught his attention.
Air Fryer Test and Taste Review
After cooking the fillets in an air fryer for 10 minutes, Deano noted the batter turned beautifully crispy. He praised the 'beautiful white fish' inside, saying, 'They are absolutely fantastic. The fish is not the highest quality, but it is nice. It's flaky, soft, and the batter does exactly what it says on the bag.' He described the curry sauce batter as crispy and compared them to the best fish fingers he'd ever had, though noted they were a bit more expensive.
On price, he commented, 'Four quid? Maybe slightly overpriced but fish is not cheap anymore.' Since his review, Iceland has reduced the price to £2, and the bags are sometimes part of a three for £10 deal.
Gordon Ramsay Comparison
Deano gave the product an 8.9 out of 10, calling it a tasty snack that could double as a 'posh fish finger sandwich'. He then made a bold claim: 'I've recently gone to Gordon Ramsay's fish and chip ship in Las Vegas. But I will spoil it for you a little bit... these are better.' Gordon Ramsay Fish & Chips, located on Las Vegas Boulevard, has an average rating of four out of five on Tripadvisor from over 1,800 reviews.
Viewer Reactions
Viewers shared their thoughts. One wrote, 'My kids loved these in the salt and vinegar batter.' Another added, 'The fish fillets without curry sauces are fantastic too. Quality fish that melts in your mouth. Fantastic value, used to be three for a tenner.' A third simply said, 'Might go to Iceland tomorrow.' On the Iceland website, one review read, 'We loved these. I am a recent snobby Iceland convert and this is one of the reasons why.'
