Barton Aerodrome, the lesser-known airport in Eccles, Salford, is set up for a family day out this summer, with plane watching, a free play area and a cafe on site.
The free children's play area includes its own pretend control tower, and picnic tables are available for families who bring their own food. The Club House cafe serves breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea.
Free family events
Free entertainment is running over the school holidays. The first family day took place on Friday, July 31. The next is on Saturday, August 7, with a circus theme party, bubbles, stilt walkers and live music. It starts at 12pm, with live music from 2pm, and no booking is required.
Most Fridays and Saturdays in August will feature free family events. The line-up includes a party with a kids DJ and Bluey on August 14, and a kids party with Stitch on August 21.

The Club House owners Joanne Taylor and Fiona Stringer said: "The Club House is proud to be a family-friendly destination at Barton Aerodrome, offering great food, drinks and a packed calendar of events, from live music and family entertainment to themed evenings and community gatherings. We’re passionate about creating a welcoming venue for people of all ages to enjoy."
A new outdoor stage has been installed for live summer events. The pair added: "It’s a brilliant place, exciting for the kids to be around. It will hopefully inspire some youngster to get into aviation while having a brilliant day."
Paid events and practical info
Tickets are needed for a Boogie Bingo event on August 15, priced at £20 per person. The final event is on August 28, when wristbands are required for the bouncy castles.
