Autumn is approaching, and with it comes the chance to refresh your wardrobe with new jackets. From Marks and Spencer to Nobody's Child, White Stuff, Next and more, senior fashion writer Eve Rowlands has shared some of her favourite new styles for the season.
These jackets are lighter than standard coats, making them ideal layering pieces in classic styles like trench, bomber, barn, and funnel neck. The high street is full of new collections reflecting trends from the A/W26 catwalks, including deer print, vibrant blues, and rich olive greens.
Faux leather and funnel necks
The M&S Faux Leather Harrington Jacket, priced at £48, comes in a deep sage-olivey green with a soft faux leather finish and a collar that turns into a funnel neck. Available in sizes six to 18 (with 20 to 24 already out of stock online), it has a regular fit with figure-enhancing stitching. A double-ended zip allows it to be unzipped at the bottom without opening fully, and a buttoned strap beneath the collar offers extra protection. It has already earned a 4.9-star rating from shoppers, with one review saying: "Great for Autumn, looking forward to wearing this beautiful jacket with skirts and jeans as the weather gets cooler." Another noted: "What a gorgeous jacket, the colour is just perfect and will be well used going into the latter part of the year. Sits just right and is just right on top of a dress. I got size 10, and it is fitted," adding: "If you wanted to wear anything a bit chunkier under, I'd go a size up."
From Next, the Brown Animal Print Faux Fur Funnel Neck Zip Through Deer Jacket costs £75. This faux-fur funnel-neck jacket features a deer print with earthy tones and a dotted design, a cosy funnel neckline, and a zip-through front. It is lined with recycled polyester and has a relaxed fit, though it is not waterproof.
Trench coats and bright colours
Next also offers the Sand Shower Resistant Trench Coat at £65. This classic trench style has a notched lapel collar, double-breasted button fastening, an adjustable waist belt, and a single storm flap, in a light sandy hue. Available in regular and petite, sizes six to 22, the brand warns it 'runs large'. One three-star review said: "Coat seems good enough quality, but it is very oversized. I ordered an 8 and a 10 and am returning both, as even the 8 is massive. I would recommend downsizing at least one size." Another shopper praised its lightweight design: "I bought this lightweight raincoat for a recent trip to New York, and it did not disappoint! Easy to carry or fold away on a plane, warm enough for New York. Hilly weather with the added protection of any potential shower of rain."
Nobody's Child has the Cobalt Blue Funnel Neck Jacket, reduced to £111.20 from £139. This vibrant blue design has a relaxed fit, elasticated cuffs, and a funnel neck that flips down into a collar. An inner drawstring can define the waist, and front flap pockets complete the look. One shopper said: "Love this jacket, light weight, room for a jumper underneath as roomier. I have had compliments about the colour." Some found the relaxed style too oversized and sized down.
Country style and raincoats
The Khaki Tartan Trim Country Jacket from Nobody's Child is priced at £159. It features a khaki hue with brown and white tartan on the turn-up cuffs and a removable neck tie, along with an oversized fit, dropped shoulders, and concealed mock-horn buttons. One five-star review said: "The Khaki Tartan Trim Country Jacket is just stunning. I was so happy when this beautiful Jacket arrived," though a petite shopper noted: "Unfortunately, since I’m only 5ft 1 in height, it was too big, too oversized. If available in petite in the future, I’ll definitely buy."
Boden's Colour block Raincoat costs £169. It is fully waterproof with huge pockets and a deep hood, featuring bright orange and tan accents against a navy background, fastened with a zip and tortoiseshell buttons, and finished with a tan collar and back panel.
White Stuff's Elodie Reversible Jacket is £100. It has a subtly stitched denim pattern on one side and a bright abstract pattern on the reverse, made with 100% organic cotton. It has an open design with slight padding, ideal for milder weather, though shoppers can add a brooch for fastening.
