Wynne Evans has opened up about his former Strictly Come Dancing co-stars, revealing he no longer hears from his dance partner Katya Jones or fellow contestant Jamie Borthwick. The 54-year-old Welsh opera singer, who competed on the show in 2024, shared his thoughts in a candid TikTok video answering questions about his time on the programme.
Wynne's candid TikTok revelation
In the clip, Evans addressed whether he remains in touch with Jones or Borthwick, stating: "I'll answer these in one. Short answer - no. Longer answer - of course they all reached out to me when I left. Privately, they all gave me their support."
He continued: "But, when I asked them to do it publicly, they said they'd have to check with their publicists. I kind of understood that. Even though, I'm a guy who if I'm your friend, I'm your friend through thick and thin. That really surprised me actually about the whole celebrity community."
Evans added: "I thought they were my friends but, actually, it was c***. All my friends from opera - no problem at all. I hear from them all the time. So, yeah, no I don't hear from them. Anton is the exception to the rule. I've heard from Anton, and he's a top bloke."
Praise for Anton Du Beke
He singled out Anton Du Beke for praise, saying: "He invited me to his show. I saw Lauren, she was in his show, and she came around my house the next day for lunch but Anton - he was really nice. He's a top, top bloke. Of all the people there, I would say he's the most real. I think he's just a good, solid bloke."
This is not the first time the relationship between Evans and Jones has been highlighted, despite his apparent "true feelings". Previously, it was claimed there had been a bitter "fallout" between the two.
Controversies and aftermath
Evans faced several controversies during his Strictly stint. He and Jones issued an apology mid-series for what he characterised as them "messing around" after footage showed him placing his hand on her waist. During the subsequent live tour, he apologised for using "inappropriate and unacceptable" language following claims he used the phrase "spit roast" when speaking to Janette Manrara at a photocall. Evans maintained it was part of a nickname for Borthwick and "wasn't meant sexually".
He subsequently departed both the tour and his BBC Radio Wales programme, which he had presented since 2016. At the time, he stated: "I've agreed with the BBC that I'll take some time out from my radio show and the Strictly Live tour, as well as my other public commitments, to prioritise my wellbeing. I am deeply sorry for the pain my inappropriate actions have caused, and plan to take this time for self-reflection. Apologies to those I won't get to see at the remaining performances and I'm grateful to my fellow tour gang for all the amazing support they have given me."
Months later, it was confirmed he would not return to the radio programme. He released a statement saying: "From the very depths of my heart - thank you. These past few months, your love has been the light in my darkest days. Every message, every word of encouragement, every moment you stood by me has carried me through more than you could ever know."
A BBC spokesperson previously stated there were "no plans" to collaborate with him in future. Representatives for Katya Jones and Jamie Borthwick have been approached for comment.
