A fan at the FIFA World Cup has been dubbed the 'worst pitch invader ever' after his attempt to disrupt the final moments of the USA's 4-1 victory over Paraguay ended almost instantly at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
The Failed Invasion
The incident occurred as the USA scored their fourth goal, with the unknown fan spotted already over the railing on a ledge between the stand and a short drop to pitch level. However, as he hesitated, security personnel closed in. When he finally jumped, he landed directly into the arms of officials, who tackled him to the ground in seconds.
Social Media Reaction
The fan's attempt was widely ridiculed online. One user joked: 'Security tackled him faster than any striker tonight.' Another added: 'Literally just jumped in the middle of everyone.. guy just wanted a lifetime ban.' A third commented: 'Imagine paying $2000 for a ticket, + fines & bail, only to get arrested and banned for life and not even coming close to invading the pitch.' Some fans alleged the man was a streamer and the invasion was a planned stunt.
The USA's win, featuring two goals from Folarin Balogun, kicked off their World Cup campaign in style, but the failed pitch invader stole the spotlight for all the wrong reasons.
