Trevor Green, co-founder of Entertainment Film Distributors (EFD) and a major figure in UK film distribution, has died in London at the age of 66, according to associates.
Green ran EFD with his brother Nigel since founding the company with their father Michael in the late 1970s. The distributor handled films from Teen Wolf to The Artist and was known for lucrative deals with New Line and The Weinstein Company.
EFD became one of the UK's largest independent distributors, with successes including Oscar winners The Departed, Gosford Park, Million Dollar Baby, Brokeback Mountain and the Lord of the Rings trilogy, as well as franchises like Bad Moms, The Inbetweeners and Saw.
A fellow distribution veteran described Green as 'incredibly supportive of smaller independents' and 'a genuinely lovely man'. Green was a trustee of charity Variety, which called him 'an extremely generous man and dedicated supporter'. He was also Joint Managing Director of the UK's Film & TV Charity.
Green, known as a very private man, had been in hospital for several weeks. He is survived by his wife and three young children.
