A 'time traveller' wearing what appears to be Apple AirPods has been spotted by eagle-eyed TikTok users in footage from the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The clip, created by @yessirbrother, shows a performer at the Olympics with white plastic objects in his ears that resemble AirPods.
Conspiracy theorists claim the man is a time traveller because AirPods were not released until 2016, eight years after the Beijing Games. In the video, the TikTok creator says he was 'appreciating the Beijing opening ceremony' when he made the discovery. He wrote 'CHINA GOTTA EXPLAIN' on the video.
However, viewers were sceptical. One commenter noted that Bluetooth earbuds existed long before AirPods. Another said Nokia had Bluetooth headphones way back.
This comes after football fans spotted another 'time traveller' in a photo from the 1962 World Cup final. In the image, Brazil captain Mauro Ramos raises the trophy while a man in the crowd appears to hold a flip phone. Flip phones were not invented until 1996, but the device was actually a box camera, a popular photography tool at the time.
Footage from 1938 also sparked time travel theories. In the clip, a young woman holds something to her ear while walking, leading some to believe she was using a mobile phone. Others argue it could be another object.
