Bebe Rexha has revealed that Taylor Swift secretly offered her support after a string of high-end fashion houses refused to dress her for the Grammys. The revelation came during an interview with E! News at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, where Bebe recalled the difficult period surrounding her first Grammy nominations in 2019.
A Secret Gesture of Kindness
Speaking about the ordeal, Bebe, 37, said: "I remember when I had the whole Grammys situation, and I couldn't find a dress, and she had reached out to me because we're the same age." She described the moment as "really, really, really kind of her," noting that while some people did reach out, Taylor's support at such a high level made her feel like she belonged.
Despite the setbacks, the New York-born songstress dazzled in a red Monsoori gown on the red carpet at the awards ceremony. The controversy began when Bebe claimed that on January 21, 2019, high-end fashion houses had refused to dress her because she was more than a size eight.
Public Response and Empowerment
At the time, Bebe addressed the issue directly on the red carpet, saying: "Yo, you wish you could've dressed my fat a*s." Reflecting on the support she received, she said: "It's been amazing. I didn’t expect it. I just did the video because I was really heartbroken and it bummed me."
She continued: "They said I was too big or fat and I love my body and I just want other girls to love their bodies." On social media, Bebe told her fans: "Empower women to love their bodies instead of making girls and women feel less then by their size. We are beautiful any size! Small or large! Anddddd My size 8 ass is still going to the Grammys. #LOVEYOURBODY."
A Stand Against Size Discrimination
In a video posted at the time, Bebe explained the situation: "So I finally get nominated at the Grammys and it's like the coolest thing ever. And a lot of times artists will go and talk to designers and they will make them custom dresses to walk the red carpet right, like you go to any big designer." She added that her team had reached out to many designers, but "a lot of them do not want to dress me because I'm too big."
She concluded: "Literally I am too big, and like if a size six/eight is too big then I don't know what to tell you. I don't want to wear you're f****** dresses. Because that's crazy! You are saying that all the women in the world who are size eight and up are not beautiful and they cannot wear your dresses."
