American baseball players have hailed the Tartan Army's takeover of Fenway Park as the 'most fun game' they have ever played. The Texas Rangers faced the Boston Red Sox on Sunday, June 14, in what was dubbed 'Scottish Heritage Celebration Night,' and the atmosphere created by over 5,000 Scotland supporters left a lasting impression on the players.
Unforgettable Atmosphere at Fenway Park
The Texas Rangers won the game 6-4, but the post-match conversation centered on the extraordinary energy brought by the Tartan Army. Texas Rangers outfielder Brandon Nimmo described the experience as one of the coolest regular-season games he had ever played. 'That was awesome,' he said in a post-game interview.
Teammate Wyatt Langford revealed that players discussed the atmosphere among themselves after the game, with many agreeing it was one of the most memorable occasions of their careers. 'A lot of us said that was the most fun game we've ever played. Myself included. I thought it was awesome,' Langford said. He added that the noise and energy created a playoff-like atmosphere, even though he had never played in the playoffs himself.
Manager's Bucket List Experience
Texas Rangers manager Skip Schumaker compared the atmosphere to attending a European football match, which is on his bucket list. 'My bucket list is to be at a European game one day with my kids, and that was probably as close to it as you can get with that atmosphere,' he said. He noted that many fans attending their first baseball game might have become new fans because of the experience.
Tartan Army's Pre-Game Festivities
Before the first pitch, thousands of Scotland fans gathered outside Fenway Park, marching to the stadium in a sea of tartan, waving Scotland flags, and singing chants, still riding high from Scotland's win against Haiti. Once inside, they turned the game into a memorable event for players and American fans alike.
Scotland football chants echoed around the grounds, with local fans joining in and adapting the famous 'No Scotland, No Party' chant into 'No Red Sox, No Party.' The singing continued throughout the game, with supporters introducing American fans to tunes like Gala's 'Freed From Desire' and 'The Bonnie Banks o' Loch Lomond.'
Although the Red Sox lost, both teams felt victorious after the Tartan Army transformed an ordinary regular-season fixture into a night that felt like playoff baseball.
