Susan Boyle has taken to Instagram to issue a personal message to the Scotland team ahead of their return to the World Cup tonight for the first time in 28 years. Steve Clarke's Scotland squad face Haiti tonight at Boston Stadium in the first of their three matches before the knockout stages later in the competition.
Before Scotland make their debut on the pitch on Saturday evening, SuBo has sent the team her support. In a video of her wearing an over-sized grey coat, the former BGT star opens up her jacket to reveal her Scotland strip underneath as she declares: "No Scotland, no party."
Speaking to the camera, the 65-year-old refers to her famous audition song, stating: "This message is for you lads. I had a dream and Scotland has a dream. You can do this."
The Tartan Army arrived in north America earlier in the week to cheer on their team in the lead up to the first game with many famous faces among fans including First Minister John Swinney and actors Gerard Butler, Richard Gadd and Martin Compston. The stars have all made the trip to see the team's first fixture against Haiti tonight at 9pm local time with the game being broadcast live on the BBC at 2am BST on Sunday, June 14.
Boyle's message comes weeks after she released a surprise song as part of a new musical collaboration with the ice cream brand Cornetto. The dance remix to the brand's popular Just One Cornetto jingle by Count Giovanni di Regina took a notable change in direction from her usual rich, operatic sound, opting for a pulsing club beat instead.
The announcement was made days after she teased her comeback with photos on social media showing her glamorous new look – a sleek blonde bob, sunglasses and a long, brown fur coat.
The West Lothian-born singer was runner-up in BGT and since then has had three UK number one albums and one Top 10 single, with two Grammy Award nominations to her name. Last year the singer made headlines after being praised by Hollywood star Timothee Chalamet as one of his top five Britons, naming her alongside Sir David Beckham and Lady Victoria Beckham.
