Strictly Come Dancing professional Dianne Buswell has revealed she struggled with bulimia while working as a dancer on cruise ships before finding fame on the BBC show. The 34-year-old admitted she 'wasn't well' and would make herself sick in a bid to lose weight due to weekly weigh-ins.
Speaking on ITV's Lorraine, Buswell explained that dancers on cruise ships were weighed every week and given a 'weight warning' if they gained too much. She said: 'I had two of them in my time and I weighed two more kilos that I do now.' Her obsession with achieving the perfect weight led her to skip meals and exercise excessively, resulting in anaemia and hospitalisation.
Buswell described the experience as a 'turning point' in her life, which she 'never wants to return to, ever.' She admitted that while a 'slight voice' in her head remains, she now deals with it in a 'much stronger, healthier and better' way. She credited movement and dance for improving her mental health.
The dancer, who is in a relationship with YouTuber Joe Sugg, also hinted at plans for marriage and children, saying: 'We love being aunt and uncle for our beautiful nieces and nephew for now, but yes one day we would love it.' Buswell will appear on Celebrity MasterChef this week.
