Storm Huntley Shares Heartbreaking Miscarriage Experience
Jeremy Vine co-host Storm Huntley has publicly revealed that she suffered a devastating miscarriage in 2024, opening up about her ongoing grief in an emotional Instagram post shared on Monday. The 39-year-old broadcaster, who welcomed son Otis in 2022 and daughter Sloan last year with husband Kerr Okan, frontman of rock band The LaFontaines, disclosed that she sadly lost what would have been her second son.
Emotional Spring Clean Discovery
Taking to her Instagram Stories, Huntley posted a photograph during her spring cleaning as she came across a custom T-shirt that announced her eldest son as a 'big brother' and revealed her 2024 due date. The tiny top featured a printed digger alongside the words: 'Big brother under construction. Estimated completion date October 2024'.
Storm captioned the poignant post: 'Cleaning out my wardrobe today...This is a hard one to let go of. I've had a baby since and I'm so happy with my little family: But where does this go? Three piles: bin, charity; or back in the cupboard. None feel right.'
She continued with an important message: 'Sharing this because miscarriage is so common but not talked about enough.'
Television Career and Family Life
Storm Huntley joined The Wright Stuff in 2015 and continued in her role when Jeremy Vine took over the programme, eventually fronting her own show that has built up a loyal following of viewers. Last year, she introduced her newborn baby girl to viewers at home, sharing the newborn's sweet name Sloan Blue during a video message to Channel 5.
Despite sleep deprivation, Huntley appeared in great spirits as she promised to bring the new addition into the studio soon. Introducing Sloan as the 'newest recruit' to the team, she detailed: 'She entered this world at 2.30 on Saturday morning, so a party animal, and, as Jeremy likes his facts, she was 6.3lbs and born on the 15th March.'
Fully immersed in the newborn bubble, she continued: 'It's been wonderful. Otis got to meet his little sister and he's been playing a blinder as a big brother. Loving his duties. Boo, our dog, less happy we've brought yet another child home from the hospital. But she got used to Otis, so she'll get used to this one too. And we're all just overjoyed and excited to come into the studio and see you in real life sometime soon.'
Personal Background and Career Journey
Storm Huntley tied the knot with Kerr Okan in 2021 during a wedding ceremony on the banks of Loch Lomond in Scotland. The following year, the couple welcomed their first child together, son Otis. Born in 1987, the Scottish presenter received her distinctive Christian name after her mother read Wilbur Smith's 1977 novel A Sparrow Falls, which features a central character with the same name.
Raised in the East Dunbartonshire town of Bishopbriggs, Huntley attended local high school before attaining a degree in politics and economics at the University of Glasgow in 2008. She continued her studies in England, enrolling in a postgraduate degree in broadcast journalism at the London College of Communication.
Her media career began while studying in Glasgow with positions at a local hospital radio station and the university's non-profit freeform radio station, Subcity Radio. Following graduation, she started from the bottom with unpaid work experience before securing paid work as a researcher with BBC Scotland.
After developing a keen interest in weather reporting, Huntley took an Open University course in meteorology, a decision that led to her presenting the weather on STV Glasgow's Riverside Show.
