BBC Children in Need has launched its 2023 schools fundraising campaign, featuring celebrities such as Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill, Chloe Kelly, Harry Pinero, Demi Stokes, and Leah Williamson OBE. The stars have recreated nostalgic school photos to encourage teachers and children across the UK to raise money for the charity.
Last year, over 17,000 schools participated, involving 3.3 million children and raising an average of £5 million. This year's campaign highlights the importance of positive relationships in schools, which can provide crucial support for children and young people.
Each celebrity shared a story about a positive relationship from their childhood. Leah Williamson OBE emphasised the value of having a mentor, while Demi Stokes recalled her teacher Mr Williamson who supported her interest in football. Chloe Kelly encouraged schools to take part in a 'Bearpees' challenge or a sponsored football match.
Harry Pinero remembered teachers Mr King and Mr Hanion, who inspired him to believe in himself. Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill spoke fondly of her school days and the support from family and PE teachers. The campaign aims to raise funds for children and young people across the UK.
