SNL UK mocks Andrew, Harry and Meghan in royal sketch

Saturday Night Live UK has targeted Prince Andrew and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in its latest cold open, staging an awkward royal reunion at Sandringham.

The sketch saw the Prince and Princess of Wales tricked into meeting Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, with the encounter arranged by Andrew, played by George Fouracres.

Awkward Sandringham reunion

The scene opened with Meghan, played by Ayoade Bamgboye, remarking: “Look, this is where your grandpa asked if I was related to Beyonce.” Harry, portrayed by Jack Shep, replied: “Classic. And over here, this is where he asked if I was related to him.”

William and Kate then approached, with William calling his brother “Prince ginger pubes”. Harry responded: “I told you not to call me that because you know I don’t have a comeback.” Kate, played by Annabel Marlow, added: “Oh look, William, it’s the woman from Suits.” Harry snapped back: “She’s not on Suits anymore. She doesn’t do anything anymore.”

King’s rebuke and Andrew’s retort

The couples were joined by the King, Queen and Andrew, who asked: “Did somebody say Pizza Express Woking?” After Charles addressed his brother without his former title, Andrew fired back: “That’s Prince Andrew to you.”

The King, played by Freddie Meredith, then said: “Enough is enough. You’re arrogant. You’re entitled. You represent an outdated institution that has had centuries of war, tax evasion, and slavery, and that’s all great, but you have also been accused of terrible things, and that’s where I draw the line.” Andrew replied: “I swear, I never believed for one moment that my actions would have consequences.”

Previous royal jabs and Andrew’s legal woes

The sketch referenced Harry and Meghan’s recent return to the UK. In its season two return last month, SNL UK also mocked the couple after they moved back to the UK, six years after stepping back as working royals. That sketch, set at Balmoral, saw Charles joke the castle was for “royals only”, while Camilla told Meghan she was “as brown as ever”. Charles also quipped: “Don’t tell me you spent all your Netflix money already,” to which Harry replied: “Daddy, it was 60 million dollars. How long was it meant to last? I’m not asking for much.”

Andrew resigned from royal duties in 2019 over his ties to Jeffrey Epstein. He was later stripped of his title and ordered to leave Royal Lodge. In February this year, he was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office over allegations he shared sensitive information with Epstein as UK trade envoy. He was interviewed under caution and released under investigation, denies wrongdoing, and the police probe is ongoing.

The fourth episode of SNL UK was hosted by Danny Dyer, with musical guest Sasha Keable. Next week’s episode will be hosted by James Norton. SNL UK continues Saturdays at 10pm on Sky and streaming service Now.
