Scott Mills Marks 'Solemn' Birthday at Mother's Home After BBC Sacking

Former BBC presenter Scott Mills spent his 53rd birthday on Saturday in a subdued manner at his mother's home in Mayfield, East Sussex, following his abrupt dismissal from the corporation. The radio DJ, who was axed after the BBC received new information relating to historical sexual offence allegations, was seen looking 'solemn' by an onlooker.

Mills, who had been living in London, travelled to be with his mother Sandra, who has multiple sclerosis. Sources close to the presenter said he wanted to spend the day with her, emphasising their close bond. Sandra is said to be devastated by her son's departure from the BBC, having supported his career since his teenage years.

The Mirror revealed that Mills was questioned in 2018 over historical allegations of serious sexual offences. The investigation, which began in 2016, was closed in 2019 after the Crown Prosecution Service deemed there was insufficient evidence to bring charges. However, the BBC terminated Mills' contract after receiving compelling new information, prompting an internal review into what was known at the time.

Staff at the BBC have been left reeling by his departure, with one employee describing him as 'very popular' and noting 'a lot of hurting people here'. Mills has since released a statement acknowledging the allegation and police investigation, but declining further comment, expressing hope that the public and media will respect his wish for privacy.
