Netflix has finally announced the release date for its highly anticipated reboot of the classic childhood cartoon, Scooby-Doo: Origins, but the first-look teaser has already sparked debate among fans over the casting of the titular puppy.
First Look at Scooby-Doo: Origins
The eight-episode live-action series, first announced in March 2025, follows Shaggy's first mystery with his new best friend, Scooby-Doo. The teaser shows a brown puppy hiding in the bushes, watching a teenager in a striped shirt before pouncing and covering him with licks. The caption reads: "SCOOBY IS FINALLY REAL!!! Meet the goodest boy in Scooby-Doo: Origins, coming to Netflix in 2027."
Fan Reactions to the Puppy
While many fans were excited, some quickly questioned the breed of the puppy. One viewer on X said: "Bro wtf he's supposed to be a great Dane." Another added: "Did y'all forget Scooby Doo is a Great Dane or….?" A third wrote: "Scooby is supposed to be a Great Dane. What is this trash?"
However, the puppy in the teaser is actually a Great Dane, though some fans mistook it for a Labrador. One viewer commented: "Not saying the dogs not cute, but that's not Scooby Doo. That's a Scooby don't." Another said: "Isn't Scooby-Doo supposed to be a Great Dane...[he looks] like a Labrador."
Positive Feedback
Despite the criticism, many fans praised the adorable teaser. A YouTuber said: "A real dog? Netflix just won 2027. If this doesn't end up being the cutest thing on television, I don't know what will." Another agreed: "I love that it's a real puppy and not CGI. It's beautiful." Others exclaimed: "He is so cute!" and "Aw. Cuteness overload!"
Scooby-Doo: Origins is set to premiere on Netflix in 2027.
