Netflix has released a teaser for its long-awaited live-action series Scooby-Doo: Origins, but fans are already raising concerns about the puppy cast as the iconic dog.
First Look at Scooby-Doo Puppy
Announced in March 2025, the eight-episode series follows Shaggy's first mystery with his new best friend, Scooby-Doo. The teaser shows a brown puppy leaping from bushes to lick a teenager in a striped shirt. The caption reads: "SCOOBY IS FINALLY REAL!!! Meet the goodest boy in Scooby-Doo: Origins, coming to Netflix in 2027."
Fan Backlash Over Breed
Many viewers took issue with the puppy, arguing it doesn't resemble a Great Dane. One X user said: "Bro wtf he's supposed to be a great Dane." Another wrote: "Did y'all forget Scooby Doo is a Great Dane or....?" A third commented: "Scooby is supposed to be a Great Dane. What is this trash?"
However, the dog in the teaser is indeed a Great Dane puppy, though some fans mistook it for a Labrador. One viewer joked: "That's not Scooby Doo. That's a Scooby don't."
Positive Reactions
Other fans focused on the puppy's cuteness. A YouTube user said: "A real dog? Netflix just won 2027. If this doesn't end up being the cutest thing on television, I don't know what will." Another enthused: "I love that it's a real puppy and not CGI. It's beautiful."
Scooby-Doo: Origins is set to premiere on Netflix in 2027.
