Sarah Jessica Parker has opened up about the challenges of raising teenagers, describing parenting as 'brutally hard' in a candid interview. The 58-year-old actress, known for her role in Sex and the City, shared insights into her family life with husband Matthew Broderick and their three children: son James, 20, and twin daughters Marion and Tabitha, 14.
Speaking on the iHeart podcast Table for Two with Bruce Bozzi, Parker revealed that the family prefers cooking at home rather than ordering in. 'We cook every night,' she said. 'It's a source of huge amount of pride for everybody. But it's also mystifying because we just don't order in as a family.' She noted that they cook five to six nights a week and always try to have a Sunday dinner, often inviting guests.
Parker also discussed their family tradition of dining at Gene's Restaurant in New York City, where each family member has a regular order. Sometimes they are joined by family friend and actor Victor Garber. Despite their Hollywood success, Parker emphasised that she and Broderick raise their children to work hard for what they want. 'They should pine for things, they should want things,' she said.
In a previous interview with People in 2020, Parker spoke about the difficulty of balancing work and motherhood. 'Parenting changes you in every possible way,' she said. 'But there's a struggle, there's a conflict that exists, which is you also want to maintain this other part of your life.' She added that working mothers often feel guilty about work because they enjoy it.
Parker and Broderick have been together since 1991 and married in 1997, just before Parker's fame skyrocketed with Sex and the City. The couple continues to navigate the challenges of parenting while maintaining their careers.
