BBC Radio 2 presenter Rylan Clark has revealed his mother, Linda Clark, is recovering from a fractured shoulder after a nasty fall on ice outside her Essex home.
An Icy Accident at Home
The 72-year-old, well-known to fans from appearances on Celebrity Gogglebox, took a tumble while putting out her rubbish. Mistaking a patch of ice for water, she lost her footing. "I just went flying and I hurt my arm again," Linda explained during a live phone call to her son's radio show on Saturday.
Rylan confirmed the diagnosis, stating it was a fractured shoulder. Linda described her arm as being "black" from bruising and "so sore." The presenter recounted the moment he learned of the accident, saying, "Well that was a lovely phone call I got that morning, you on your way to the hospital." He urged his mother to rest and be careful during her recovery.
Listeners Rally with Support
Following the on-air conversation, Rylan was inundated with messages of concern from his listeners. He took a moment to thank them, reassuring everyone about her condition. "So many of you getting in touch, thank you, yeah she is alright by the way," he said. "She's fractured her shoulder, I just can't help her, you know what she's like, rushing around doing stuff."
He emphasised that the incident was a pure accident, caused by slipping on ice, and confirmed she is being well looked after.
A History of Recent Falls
This is not the first health scare Linda has faced in recent years. Back in June, Rylan expressed frustration after his mother was charged £2.50 for a pair of flip-flops by a store where she had fallen down an escalator, injuring her feet.
More seriously, during a holiday in Spain in 2023, Linda suffered a "nightmare fall" which resulted in breaks to both her arm and leg. The injuries were so severe she had to be flown back to the UK via private air ambulance on a stretcher. Rylan subsequently took a break from his work commitments to care for her through surgery and recovery.
Rylan Clark's BBC Radio 2 show airs on Saturdays from 3pm.
