Ronnie Bailey is about to commit the 'ultimate betrayal' in Coronation Street, which will destroy Debbie Webster. After being a tower of strength for his wife by supporting her through a heartbreaking battle with dementia, Ronnie goes behind Debbie's back in the worst possible way.
Ronnie's Devotion to Debbie
Ronnie has always been devoted to Debbie. When she was diagnosed with vascular dementia, he stood by her side and married her in a tear-jerking ceremony in the countryside surrounded by their loved ones. However, their relationship has been tested by Debbie's son, Carl Webster, who has caused endless trouble.
Carl's Misdeeds
Carl has committed numerous offenses, including having an affair with his uncle Kevin Webster's wife, causing a hit and run that put Tyrone Dobbs in a wheelchair, and drunkenly causing a multi-car pile-up that killed Billy Mayhew. He then gaslighted Debbie into going to prison for the crime. Despite everything, Debbie refused to give up on Carl, even as he tried to cheat her out of her money and her hotel.
Ronnie's Plan Backfires
Ronnie hatched a plan with Kevin to frame Carl for a car-stealing operation using a contact named Fiona. However, Fiona changed her mind and told Carl everything. Eventually, Debbie paid Carl two thousand pounds to leave her life, but Kevin stole the money back, pushing Carl to sabotage Kevin's car, leading to Tyrone accidentally crushing Carl with it.
Carl's Return to Crime
Carl returns to his shady ways when Kevin refuses to give him a reference, forcing Carl to work for Fiona fixing stolen cars. Ronnie, Kevin, and Tyrone are horrified to find a gun in the garage. A tense stand-off ends with Carl owing Fiona, which distresses Debbie when she finds out.
Ronnie's Ultimate Sacrifice
To save Debbie's son, Ronnie makes the ultimate sacrifice by breaking her heart. He meets with Fiona and offers to pay her off, but Fiona hints at another way for him to repay her. Ronnie agrees, and later tells Debbie that Fiona won't bother them again. But he then reveals the truth to Carl, leaving viewers wondering what Fiona wants from Ronnie: participation in a shady deal or a far worse betrayal to Debbie.
