Veteran ITV journalist and television presenter Roger Cook has died at the age of 83 following a short illness, prompting heartfelt tributes from his family and the broadcaster.

Cook, best known for his work on The Cook Report and his pioneering investigative journalism, built a remarkable career spanning decades. His family issued a poignant tribute, stating: "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Roger Cook, who died peacefully on Saturday after a short illness. Alongside a distinguished and award-winning career in journalism, Roger was first and foremost a beloved husband and father. He will be deeply missed by all of us, and we ask for privacy as we navigate this difficult loss."
ITV also released a statement, saying: "In a career spanning an incredible five decades, Roger Cook's ground-breaking approach to investigative journalism made him one of broadcasting's most trusted and respected figures. Career Highlights
Born in New Zealand, Cook moved to Australia where he began his career with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. He later relocated to London in the late 1960s and joined the BBC. He established and fronted Radio 4 programme Checkpoint, which was later adapted for ITV as The Cook Report. The programme won a BAFTA in 1997 along with several other accolades. Cook also contributed to BBC radio and television programmes including Newsnight.
His fearless approach to investigative journalism set a new standard, and his work led to significant legal reforms. He is survived by his wife and family, who have requested privacy during this difficult time.
