Rod Stewart Gushes Over Wife Penny on 19th Anniversary

Sir Rod Stewart has paid a gushing tribute to his wife as they celebrate their anniversary. The 81-year-old crooner took to Instagram on Tuesday to share a special message with Penny Lancaster, 55.

The duo celebrated their 19th wedding anniversary and the Maggie May singer laid it on thick to his "stunning lady". In the loved-up post, Rod shared a sweet throwback photo of himself and his police officer wife Penny from their wedding day in 2007.

He wrote alongside the image: "27 years of my life spent with this stunning Lady, happy 19th wedding anniversary my darling Penny, some guys have all the luck."

Penny's Playful Remark

Rod's comments come after his wife's jokey remark on their special day. She mocked her man saying she deserved a medal for putting up with him.

Previously speaking to Best magazine about their relationship lasting 26 years to date, she said: "I deserve a medal, don't I? Only joking."

And opening up on their secret to success, she continued: "We don't take each other for granted and make sure we have date nights together - dinner, the theatre or whatever, doing the school run together and having an 'a deux' coffee on the way home, long romantic walks together..."

She also confessed the duo like to remain flirty and still make each other laugh.

Scotland World Cup Celebration

Rod's kind words weren't his only celebration this week, either. Despite having to cancel a gig last minute, Rod was able to cheer on his beloved Scotland as they kicked off their World Cup campaign against Haiti. He was seen in the stands celebrating Scotland's first match in the competition in 28 years.

He took in the occasion with his sons and it came just hours after he was forced to disappoint fans by cancelling a gig due to illness. A statement told his fans he was too unwell to perform on stage for the latest leg of his One Last Time tour.

It read: "Rod Stewart very regretfully has had to cancel his show tonight in Chula Vista, California. He travelled to the venue and made every effort to perform, but on the advice of his doctors and following a diagnosis of an acute upper respiratory infection that has resulted in laryngitis, he is unable to take to the stage this evening."

Despite the sad news, Rod shared a message on Instagram hours later saying he was able to make it to the match. On Instagram, he revealed he'd taken a private jet with his sons Alistair and Liam to get to the momentous occasion.

"Here we are off to see Scotland in the World Cup. It's been 28 years. And these kids, I've told them about it but they've never been," Rod said.

"I've been to seven World Cups," added the singer. "We want to get through to the next round and I'll die a happy man. So go on Scotland!" he bellowed as his sons joined in his rallying cry.

The trio then began a chorus of: "No Scotland, no party!"
