Sir Rod Stewart is ready to party just hours after pulling out of a concert as Scotland's World Cup dreams get underway. The crooner, 81, cancelled a gig in California as part of his One Last Time tour. He was already at the venue when he was forced to cancel the entire show. But now, after his health update, he appears very much in better spirits as he uploaded a clip of him and his sons on a private jet.
His Instagram post was captioned: "Me and the boys off to Boston to see our Scotland in the World Cup! No Scotland no party."
Rod explained how it has been 28 years since the Tartan Army's last World Cup appearance. He said he had told his boys, who are 20 and 31, all about the experience having been to seven of the tournaments himself. The trio looked buzzing as Rod continued: "We want them to get through to the next round and I'll die a happy man. Let's go Scotland!"
Piers Morgan was among the stars liking his upload. And one fan was keen to see the star feeling better. They said: "Missed you last night in San Diego Rod- we hope you are doing better!!"
The cheerful message came after a statement from his team broke the news to fans on Instagram of his cancelled gig. It said: "Rod Stewart very regretfully has had to cancel his show tonight in Chula Vista, California. He travelled to the venue and made every effort to perform, but on the advice of his doctors and following a diagnosis of an acute upper respiratory infection that has resulted in laryngitis, he is unable to take to the stage this evening."
Rod later shared a photo of himself looking glum on stage as he revealed how close he'd come to making the performance. And he shared a statement of his own alongside the image. Rod said: "Well here I am in beautiful Chula Vista as the stage is being taken down around me. Following treatment, I'm feeling much better, but my voice is not. I'm very disappointed and sincerely apologise for any inconvenience to my fans. I did everything I could to make the show happen tonight, but unfortunately it just wasn't possible. I will do my utmost to reschedule."
It's unknown whether Rod's Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre in Colorado show will go ahead on June 15. But with the Tartan Army set to be in full voice as they take on Haiti, Rod's fans will be keen to see if he is there belting out the tunes with them.
Rod's One Last Time concert has been ongoing since 2024. It included the Legends spot at Glastonbury Festival. But he has recently made comments that suggests he is thinking of hanging up his microphone - but only after one last UK run. He said in 2024 that he is finished doing "large-scale world tours".
